Putting up a good fight…
…Facebook videos favoured over YouTube
A recent survey of 500 consumers of all ages was conducted in June and July 2018, enquiring about the video watching and social media preferences.
Nearly half of the respondents (47%) said they watch more video content on Facebook as opposed to 41% who watch video mainly on YouTube, according to Slidely.
Also, 71% of the consumers stated that the Facebook video adverts were relevant or very relevant. This signifies the increasing importance of precision-targeted video adverts, and the evolving consumer expectations regarding the ads they see online.
The results indicate an increasing importance of online video and its power as a marketing tool. These findings are essential for business owners and marketing agencies who wish to maximise the effectiveness of their online advertising campaigns. As marketers learn more about consumer behaviour, they can then tailor campaigns of greater impact to their audience.
Facebook generates over 8 billion views a day.
Assuming just a 3-second view on Facebook, that’s 760 years worth of video viewed every single day!
Other important findings include:
- Over five online Facebook videos are watched by 44% of the respondents daily
- 56% of respondents spend more time on Facebook than other social media platforms
- 65% of respondents prefer watching a video with sound on Facebook.
- Only 32% of respondents prefer voice-overs on their Facebook videos
- A publishers Facebook page is visited by 60% of respondents after viewing a video, whilst 70% state they visit the publisher’s website.
This survey shows how an audience consumes and interacts with their own video content and how beneficial that data is. It is essential that business owners have current data on their consumer audience’s video viewing preferences.
As a small sample size, it is not entirely wise to base all video marketing decisions on this. We recommend creating a tailored audience for your video campaign on Facebook and still upload onto your YouTube channel. A win-win situation. Whilst longer videos work best on YouTube, Instagram users prefer short videos.
